I got an invite to Newsvine’s public beta a couple days ago and I jumped at the chance to check it out. It’s been on the radar for a while. Newsvine.com is sort of like AP News + Digg + del.icio.us + blogging + chatting + kitchen sink.
If you want to check it out right now you’ll have to submit your email for a beta and wait till they send you an email. I learned about it from Mike Davidson’s blog who left Disney/ESPN to launch this startup. Here is Mike’s take on the first day of Newsvine beta.

Here is a short feature run down:
- Read news
- Comment on news
- Chat live about articles
- Vote for the popularity of an article a la digg
- Write your own article
- “Seed” interesting links from around the web a la digg
- Tag articles a la del.icio.us
- RSS in lots of flavors
- Embed Newsvine RSS in your own site, like I do with my digg and del.icio.us links

I look forward to seeing how this plays out. I am also curious to see what the business model/revenue stream turns out to be. It’s not clear to me if this is going to be a paid service in the future.
The design and usability is great. Davidson is to credit for that I’m sure. You can see his hand in it. It is very easy to figure out, navigate and explore. Try to get on the beta list and check it out.

Scott McDaniel puts it this way: Newsvine.com is sort of like AP News + Digg + del.icio.us + blogging + chatting + kitchen sink […]
