First time out with Suunto T6 Heart Rate Monitor

There is a really groovy photo gallery here. Too bad you can't see it. Go to www.macromedia.com and get the Flash player if you'd like to.

I got my new Sunnto T6 today and took right out on a run on Mt Sanitas here in Boulder. I was very impressed. The software installed without a hitch and the watch worked flawlessly. Below is a what the graph looked like after I downloaded the data.
Heart rate monitor data

The so called Training Effect is a little bit of a mystery. Apparently I ‘Overreached” or “over trainied” today even though I didn’t really feel that that was the case. I attempted to stay my Zone 3 (70-80% of max heart rate 131-150 bpm) but that felt like I wasn’t really moving. I experimented with finding my true rather than calculated max heart rate, but that’s another article.

Anyways day one was

  • 1 hr 26 min
  • 4 miles
  • 1263 feet of ascent
  • Avg heart rate 154
  • Max 183, Min 107

more to come…

Hi, Are you using the Sunnto T6 with MacOSX? If so, I’m thrilled, because I’ve been looking for a running watch/heart rate monitor with OSW connectivity. I’ve been looking at the T6 but didn’t think I worked with OSX? // T

I compiled a GNU linux driver on mac, made GUI wrapper for it and packaged it in Mac OS X way. So some kind of support for mac is here. No analyzing (epoc etc) is provided by this software :(
