Glad you found a watch that will suit your lifestyle. It is challenging to purchase an HRM as it took me a over a month scouting for one. I on the other hand ended up with an AXN500. I do dump my data on my IBM T42 after climbs & runs and have been using all these data to analyze my progress. If the T3 came sooner I might have ended up with it simply for style-he he he. Battery life of the AXN5s lasts an average of 12 months (light use of compass). As for support...local (Manila, Philippines) authorized distributor/support sucks!...which is why I chose the AXN500 (user "serviceable"---battery/wrist replacement) as I expect the worse aftermarket service from most brands & dealers.

I hope to get the chance to try a Suunto (T3 or CORE) someday for comparison.

I continued to be very happy with the T-6. The battery died after about 9 months of very heavy use. I can't complain about that though. It served me well as an altimeter on a climbing trip to Bolivia this summer too.

Since this article was posted I too have been trying to decide between Suunto X6 and Polar AXN500.

You mentioned that you were going to post more about this after using it for a while. Well, it has been a year... Are you happy with your decision?

Thanks for tip!
I added two new scipts to the iTunes scripts folder that came with the itunes plug in (ctrl click >> Actions >> Reveal). Vol Up and Vol Down, and assigned them to F13 and F14. Each one adjusts the itunes vol by 20% without adjusting my mac or stereo volume.

I'll paste them here if anyone wants to use them:
Vol Up:
tell application "System Events" to if (application processes whose name is "iTunes") is not {} then ¬
	tell application "iTunes"
set stored_Vol to (get sound volume)
		set sound volume to (stored_Vol * 1.2)
	end tell

Vol Down
tell application "System Events" to if (application processes whose name is "iTunes") is not {} then ¬
	tell application "iTunes"
set stored_Vol to (get sound volume)
		set sound volume to (stored_Vol * 0.8)
	end tell

I was doing a search on how to get iTunes keyboard shortcuts to do the exact things you write about (next song, etc., while working in another app) and came across this post. I had Launchbar installed, but I didn't want to pay to register it and, having read your review and others, I downloaded QS.

I've since removed LB in favor of QS.

Thank you for your post!

Well Said and done.
itd good to know i'm not the only one thinks this way.
Suunto has much better, faster, reliable performance and support in most of the world.
Enjoy Outdoor.

I compiled a GNU linux driver on mac, made GUI wrapper for it and packaged it in Mac OS X way. So some kind of support for mac is here. No analyzing (epoc etc) is provided by this software :(

Actually, Growl comes with an app in the extras directory called GrowlTunes. If you drag that prog into your applications folder, it will automatically show the titles and artwork any time a new song starts in iTunes. It will obviously use the theme Growl is configured with. You should list it with your startup items also so it will automatically run.

What I want to do on my blog, is every few hours take the oldest post and move it to the
front of the queue, all automatically. Anyone know if there is a plugin that can do this or
a simple way to set up another plugin to do this (use my own feed perhaps)?
Thanks.

Hi, Are you using the Sunnto T6 with MacOSX? If so, I'm thrilled, because I've been looking for a running watch/heart rate monitor with OSW connectivity. I've been looking at the T6 but didn't think I worked with OSX? // T

The only thing is that the current song notifier doesn't use Growl.
And the actual theme looks crappy.
Is there any way to change it? I love especially the "Music Video" notifier in Growl for that kind of purpose.

Hey

great stuff on your site...
quick question: do you know where the artwork is stored if anywhere when quicksilver shows it? It's a bit frustrating to see the artwork but not be able to put it in iTunes if it isn't there ( as it seems to me that it does display some artwork when it isn't there in iTunes.. though haven't seen any consistency there...)

thx

All that and you STILL have time to write a blog? I'm guessing you have no children (or a very busy wife, ha ha!).

Sounds like a dream job. Sherpa rules!

Nice one Scott! You seem to have your hands full, I wonder if you have a 25 hour day. Its good to note that a lot of value is coming on the table for what you do, so don't stop Brother, not even with a gun to your Head! And don't change your ways too. And if you must change, be like the wine that gets better with age, because like a Volvo Ad copy says: "beautiful places are often at the end of rugged roads"

Pass on my best for the holiday season to Anne, Carol, and everyone else at Sherpa for continuing to do a great job.

The site continues to remain impressively relevant which is why we continue to recommend it to anyone we run into.

I'd like to see the search engine? I couldn't find it on the Sherpa site. I know Atomz is good, I was just wondering where you've used it.

It's nice to have another perspective on the inner workings of sherpa. And it sounds like they (you) are dealing with the same types of issues that the rest of us are.

Yeah I did look at Synergy and it was cool, my main reason for using Quicksilver was that it did an decent job without having yet another memory resident program running all the time.

I might have to look at it again though because Quicksilver has been crashing on me since the last 2 beta releases.

I just have an improvement on the very last thing you mentioned about re-displaying the track name. The iTunes plugin also includes a "Show Playing Track" command, which can be hotkeyed. I like to hotkey this for manual use, rather than leave the notifications on for interruptions while i'm working.

Glad to see others are realizing the power of quicksilver though!

By the way, I'm a big fan of your site as well.

I'd rather not do it through an RPC interface. I like having the power through my WP Admin to control all my posts. I was using PhotoMatt's WP plugin implementation of widgEditor. I think all the munging was due to a combination of that plugin and the convert <code> plug which auto converts < and > when found between <code> tags.

It's all gone to hell!

Hee hee! For WYSIWYG, you might want to try BlogJet - http://www.blogjet.com. It's a Windows client and works with any blog. The only problem is that WP sometimes munges post slug field, so if you're using SEO urls should verify a post works after you upload it.

Thanks Patrick, yes I see the similarity, you could probably even do away with the li contatiners in your example all together and just use a floating definition list like here.

But you do remind me I wanted to write more about floating list elements in some future article.

Nice implementation of definition lists, great idea!
Wanted to let you know, however, that the tecnique collapses in Opera (7.54) under MacOS X. The first 2 cells work just fine, but the rest go wild. In Opera 8 all's fine, so I don't think there's need to worry about it whatsoever.

I've <a href="http://www.aspnetresources.com/blog/styling_definition_lists.aspx" rel="nofollow">struggled with Opera</a> on this too and it was driving me nuts. Whatever they changed in Opera 8 made the layout work though.

Really, really nice design! There's just one thing about the "leave a comment" headers. It looks like you forgot to apply "no-repeat" to the background though they brake in Safari. Don't know what it looks like in other browsers. The rest is just brilliant!
Bye Moritz :)

Congratulations! I also am preparing to marry a beautiful and wonderful lady from Thailand in the near future and I am concerned about all the paperwork involved and how long it will take for my beautiful bride to join me in the US. Perhaps you could calm my worries with a little information on how hard the process is. I appreciate any information on marrying a Thailand lady.

Scott,

Don't forget to post your mom's address on the site, so people can send gifts there (in case we don't buy them online and ship them that way)!

Have a good trip home in just a few weeks!

Thanks,
Angela and Michael

Hysterical! Been there, done that! I was married about 6 months ago, in a Thai ceremony, and . . . it happened as you describe. It was my fourth! and definitely the BEST marriage I've ever had!! i just went along for the incredible ride. I definitely prefer not understanding a word or a thing that's going on!!! I did understand that this beautiful, magnificent woman was actually hooking up with me, for life. And a few days later, after a short honeymoon, we went off to the amphur and signed on the dotted line. I'll send you a link to my Yahoo!Photos Wedding Album

Scott,
I met you while doing my traveling year abroad. Do you remember thanksgiving at the FCC in Phnom Phen. Soma is my name and Jeroma was my sister. I just wanted to say that its very neat to read about your story as I am going through the same thing. The only difference I met an englishman in Thailand. Im planning to move to England but Phil has been here in the states and has so far had to leave every three months. We are planning to get married. Its neat to hear that another traveler met their love while traveling the world. Best of luck to you both. Soma

Hello! I am definitely an "anarchist" by my definition of the word!

I very much enjoyed our chat. Let's get together some time -- at your convenience. I'll bring my relatively meager collection of DVDs & VCDs.
